How to join a community

In order to join a community you need three things :

  1. A LifeJournal account (with or without subscription)
    • You can create an account here
    • You can also create an account directly in the LifeJournal app
  2. An invite link to join the community, or your account need to have been invited manually by the administrator of the community you want to join
  3. If the community is end-to-end encrypted, you will also need the community "unlock password", given by the administrator of the community

Step 1

Start the LifeJournal app. If it's the first time you use the app click on "I want to join an existing community base".

If it's not the first time you use the app, please make sure to return to the database selector if your are not already here, by clicking on the three vertical dots and then selecting the option "Switch database".

When you are in the database selector, click on the "Add" button, and then on "I want to join an existing community base"

Step 2 : logging-in to your account

Now you need to log in to your LifeJournal account.

When it's done, if you have been invited to join a community by its administrator, LifeJournal will prompt you to select this community.

If no community is proposed, it's because you haven't actually been manually invited.

If you have been sent an invite link to join the community, then select "Use invite link" instead. Then paste the invite link and follow to step 3.

Step 3 : accessing the community

When you select a community, LifeJournal will prompt your to confirm your choice.

If the community is not end-to-end encrypted, LifeJournal will load the community database immediately.

If the community is end-to-end encrypted, LifeJournal will prompt you to input the unlock password for this community. This password should be given to you by the administrator of the community.

When you are done, LifeJournal should load the community database.

End

Now that the community is registered, you will be able to access it again in one click, from the database selector, at the start of the app.
