How to create a community

To create a LifeJournal community, you need to have at least a "Basic Plus" subscription.

This guide will assume that you already have your subscription set up. If you don't have a subscription set up, you can also use the free trial feature in step 2 of this guide.

Step 1

Start the LifeJournal app. If it's the first time you use the app click on "I want to connect to one of my cloud bases"

If it's not the first time you use the app, please make sure to return to the database selector if your are not if your are not already here, by clicking on the three dots and then "Switch database".

When you are in the database selector, click on the "Add" button, and then on "I want to connect to one of my cloud bases"

Step 2 : logging-in to your account

Now you need to log in to your LifeJournal account. If you don't have a LifeJournal account, you can create one by cliking on "Sign up".

When you are logged in, if you don't have a subscription, LifeJournal will prompt you to use the free trial feature, or create a subscription.

If you have a subscription, LifeJournal will instead prompt you to select one of your cloud database if you already have a subscription.

(If you want to create a new cloud database, select "None" and then select "Manage my cloud databases")

Step 3 : selecting the cloud database

When you select a cloud database, LifeJournal will prompt your to confirm your choice.

Then if it's the first time you used this cloud database, it will ask you to initialize this database.

First it will ask you if this is a "Personal" or "Community" base. Select "Community".

Then it will ask you to select the encryption mode. In both mode the cloud base will be encrypted, but if you choose "end-to-end encryption" mode (the most secure), then you and all members of your community will be required to input an unlock password (the first time they access your community on one of their devices).

If you select "managed encryption", the users will not be required to have the unlock password to access your community (they will still need to be invited though).

If you choose "end-to-end encryption" mode, LifeJournal will ask you to create the unlock password for this base (this is the same as the encryption password). Note that you will have to share this password with every user you want to invite to your community. So don't use something personal.

If it's not the first time you used this cloud database, just input the unlock password you set previously.

When you are done, LifeJournal should load the database.

Step 3 : enabling community mode

Now click on the cloud in the lower right corner of the screen (or left if you changed the setting).

In the window that will open, toggle the "Community mode" button.

It will ask you to reload the app, click yes.

Normally you should be back where you left (if not, click on the cloud again).

Step 4 : inviting users

Now click on the cloud in the lower right corner of the screen (or left if you changed the setting).

In the window that will open, below the "Community mode" button, there will be an "Invite user" button. Click on it

A new window will open, which will give you two options to invite users.

Option 1 - Inviting users manually

Click on "Add user" at the bottom.

Then enter the username or the mail of the LifeJournal user you want to invite.

Warning : the user you want to invite must alrady have a LifeJournal account. He doesn't need a subscription, just an account.

Option 2 - Create an invite link

Click on "Create an invite link to join your community" at the bottom.

A new link will appear at the bottom of the window. Send this link with anyone and they will be able to join your community.

If you want to disable an invite link, just click on the trash icon next to it.

End

When you are done, the invited users will be able to join your community by following this guide.

Note that if you have a "Basic +" subscription, you can invite up to 5 users that do not have a subscription themselves. And up to 15 users if you have a standard subscription.

But you can invite as many users as you want as long as they have an active subscription themselves. For example, if you have 5 free invites and you invite 2 people with their own subscription, you will still have your 5 free invites left.
